RIE Toronto is holding their next in-person symposium on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Manulife Head Office in Toronto.
Our featured presentation will be: Supply Chain Resiliency and Continuity – Lessons Reminded and Learned Following a Massive Distribution Centre Fire Affecting one of Canada’s Top Iconic Brands: Canadian Tire.
Presented by Tom Shebrek, Assistant Vice President - Operational Risk, Canadian Tire Corporation.
On March 16, 2023, Canadian Tire Corporation experienced and endured a massive fire at one of their core national distribution centres. In addition to a staple crisis management response and recovery case study, several lessons were learned and reminded related to continuity and resiliency. Join Tom Shebrek for a recount of the event and the resiliency observations and recommendations that followed.
Tom Shebrek has been in the fields of Operational Resiliency Emergency Management, Business Continuity, Risk Management and Disaster Recovery for more than 25 years. Tom is currently leading the Operational Risk division at Canadian Tire. He has taught at York University and is currently instructing at Mohawk College. He has also held senior risk and resiliency roles at Walmart, Research in Motion (RIM)/BlackBerry and Sun Life Financial.
Tom has been a long-standing executive member of the Resilience Information Exchange – Southwestern Ontario (RIE-SWO) chapter, previously sat as the co-chair of the Private Sector Partnership Working Group supporting Canada's Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (sanctioned by the United Nations) and participates in several related events and conferences throughout the country each year.
Tom's presentation will follow with a group round table discussion on: Barriers To Operational Resiliency - Is it Just Another Buzzword?
