The DRI Canada Board of Directors is pleased to once again host a free professional development lunch in Toronto on February 26, 2025 at the Radisson Blu Downtown Toronto for certified professionals.

Scenario Testing for Operational Resilience

Financial Service entities regulated by OSFI are required to perform Scenario Testing for all end-to-end Critical Operations. In many instances the Business Continuity programs are being leveraged to support Operational Resilience programs. Other industries are also starting to recognize the importance of being resilient by considering operational risks. This session will walk through the nuances of Scenario Testing for Operational Resilience and how Business Continuity professionals can leverage their skills to contribute through testing.

  • Coordination with External Agencies and Resources

1.Learn about the conceptual differences between Business Continuity and Operational Resilience. 
2. Understand what Scenario Testing is and the benefits from this end-to-end approach. 
3. Practice key aspects of developing a Scenario Test through the lifecycle of this testing
4. Learn from other participants and explore opportunities for enhanced approaches to Scenario Testing. 

Speaker - Matthew Riley
Matt is an experienced Senior Manager specializing in Operational Risk and Resilience, with over 17 years of experience at PwC Canada and PwC UK. ​​ ​Matt has delivered risk management and Operational Resilience engagements across multiple industries including Financial Services, Retail & Consumer, Energy & Utilities and the Public Sector across EMEA, North America and APAC. He is seasoned in performing risk controls testing and working with organizations to understand their current resiliency state and mapping Critical Operations. ​​ He has led both ORM and ERM strategy and roadmap development including enhancements to frameworks linked to effectiveness reviews. He has developed Risk Appetite Statements and KRIs for multiple clients and facilitated the definition and approval of targets and tolerances in addition to enhanced reporting.

Moderated by Jeremy Paulus, CBCP
Jeremy's career in risk management and resilience has been diverse and deep. It includes nearly 25 years focusing on prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and protection. He has worked for all three levels of government and in the private sector as well. The industries vary and includes financial services/insurance, public safety, transportation, and real estate/infrastructure.  In addition to business continuity and operational resilience,  Jeremy also developed and implemented programs in cyber incident response, facility emergency management, workplace violence, health & safety, and physical security. 
Academia and research are also important to Jeremy and he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses and published in both academic and industry journals. Jeremy is a Senior Manager at PwC Canada and a Board Member at DRI Canada. He has been a CBCP since 2015 and has applied this to several industries including: Financial Services, Public Sector, Real Estate/Infrastructure, Power/Utilities, and Not for Profit.
